Rusty’s Reading List 2014 | May 26, 2014

batman and son

I picked up the first Grant Morrison Batman volume. There are some really good examples of what I don’t like in this new style of comic writing, but Morrison pulls it off. Lesser writers don’t.

They just skip over anything that isn’t exciting. So, Batman is going to investigate a lead, and then he bursts into the bad guy’s hideout!

This is vernally weak writing. The journey matters! Don’t pander to the lowest common denominator!

You know those ‘sitting around eating’ scenes by Bendis? That is good storytelling.

As I said, Morrison can pull it off better than most, though.
