Squirrel Girl

An interesting thing has happened to my comic interests. It used to be – back when I was always hip-deep in Marvel Superhero comics – that I didn’t like the ‘silly’ ones. I preferred a specific tonal range (though I didn’t realize it), and things that went out of the range needed to be separate, or ‘reasonable’. So Thor, Frog of Thunder worked because it was part of the general storyline. Loki turned Thor into a frog. That ‘made sense’ (at that level).

But I never liked things like Squirrel Girl, because writers kept insisting that it was all ‘part of continuity’. So writers had little pissing matches about whether that was ‘really Doctor Doom’ that she beat… not to mention the Thanos nonsense.

Oh, and I really don’t like Deadpool. I just thought I would throw that out there.

So, what has changed? I am no longer invested in the current shared universe, so how this book relates to other Marvel books does not concern me in the least. Instead, I just enjoy this wonderful book on its own merits.
They won me over on the first few pages with their new theme song.

If you like Superior Foes of Spider-Man You ‘might’ like this book.
If you like Lumberjanes you will ‘probably’ like this book.
If you like both you will ‘definitely’ like this book.
I am in that third group.

Recommended.
