Rusty’s Reading List 2016 | January 24, 2016

So, Sheri-D Wilson wrote me this letter… well, she did not write it to me, specifically. She wrote it to everyone who is affected by violence against women.

This is brutally powerful work. There were moments when I wanted to cheer but there were (far more) moments where I wanted to climb under the covers and sob.

Violence against women, in all its forms, isn’t a ‘woman’s issue’. It is a ‘men’s issue’.  It is stopping rapists rather than teaching women how to avoid being raped. (Though, learning how to protect yourself is a strong theme in this book.) It is recognizing that violence comes out of fear and power.

Why do some people take umbrage to the Smokey the Bear approach? “Only YOU can prevent forest fires.”

Amazing book, but be prepared when you open it. It is far from an easy read.
