Rusty’s Reading List 2016 | December 12, 2016

robin-hood

This is the definitive Robin Hood, as the contents are a reproduction of the stories as published in 1883, complete with original illustrations by the author.

You will note some differences between the tales once told and the more current variations. Maid Marian is mentioned, but only in passing, as these are ‘Boy’s Own’ style tales of derring-do. The royalty in place for much of the volume is King Henry and Queen Eleanor, with Richard taking his spot as hero and legitimatizer only after Henry’s death. King John comes in only at the end. The rest are as expected: Little John, Will Scarlet, Allan A Dale, Friar Tuck et al.

A fun read.
