Rusty's World

Rusty’s Reading List 2017 | May 8, 2017

I picked this book up after seeing Rob Winger do a reding at VERSeFest a couple of years ago, but until I cracked it recently, I didn’t really know what I was getting.
This isn’t your average poetry collection. Instead it is a cohesive whole telling the story of Edweard Muybridge, a photographic pioneer. This is a fascinating look at an interesting person, but moreover it is a fascinating look at the the world of visuals abstracted through words.
One of my favourite parts of the book is where he lists photos my subject matter, without showing the picture, so you can picture them conceptually. This allows you to do different things, like notice the difference between how men and women are posed.

My favourite section of the book came from Muybridge’s time on a coffee plantation in Guatemala, with its added splash of socio-political commentary, subtly, through picture stake and not displayed.
