TouchTheDonkey

The latest read for me from the rob mclennan collection (though he is not IN this issue…)

Ac couple of things really jumped out at me in here. The Donato Mancini cycle made me want to look into fatras a little more. Form has never been as important to me as function, but I found these interesting. Maybe inspiration inducing. (I even found a Kyle Flemmer couplet I might like to turn into a fatra, possibly.)

I also really liked the Sue Landers poem.

TNQ144

I have been reading this for a while, but got sidetracked with other things.
I am not a big fan of mixing poetry and short fiction, generally, because I consider them very different things and when I pick up a book to read some poetry, I am not there to read fiction.
Having said THAT, there is some really good fiction in here. I especially like Bill Gaston’s ‘Kiint’.
Susan Olding’s essay, ‘A Different River’ also really deserves mention.
Maybe I need to rethink my preconceptions…

AbsoluteSandman1

Sandman is the best long-form comic ever created.

Absolute Volume 1 has some of the best one-off issues, as well as great longer stories like A Doll’s House.

If you have never read The Dream of A Thousand Cats or A Midsummer Night’s Dream or the amazing issues featuring Element Girl or Calliope… or the devastatingly brutal issue in the diner with Dr. Destiny… well, what can I say. Sandman is amazing.

Amazing enough that these large collections are the third format I own them in as I bought the original comics when they were new (and even got issues #1 and #8 remarked and signed by Mike Dringenberg), as well as being the original collected editions.
