I believe I got this issue through Arc. It is a very solid periodical hailing from BC. I REALLY liked the work by Mahmud Kianush. I have made a note to get one of his collections. I would like to read more.
It is also alway nice to see more work by Erin Kirsh.
There was only a fiction I wanted to note, but it was kind of… hmmm… how to put it? It is called ‘The Secret’ by Jessica Lampard. It was a solid story and when it was done I understood the point, but during the story… I kept expecting something awful to happen. I don’t know what it was. The prose was not leading me that way. I wonder if that says more about the fiction I tend to absorb than this particular piece. Interesting.

A lot of you may know Ian, and in a lot of different ways. When I think o fIan, though, it is the ‘Kay’ Ian. The ‘Laptop Love’ Ian. And that is a pretty great version of him. I had the good fortune to be the ‘alternate’ on the 2009 Capital Slam team that won the National Slam Championship at CFSW, and Ian was the captain. (In fact, when you hear that the rest of the team was Ikenna Onyegbula, Komi Olaf, and Brandon Wint you might recognize them as The Recipe, or at least show no surprise that they were victorious.)
Over the ten years since then I have seen Ian perform a number of times, and I have always been impressed, but he was still that same poet that I already knew and liked.
This book, showed a whole new poet to me. Sometimes I could hear his voice, but other times I could see the way he had stretched his poetry practice into new areas, with incredible results.
Anyone who has ever seen Ian perform knows how good he is. Now people who have not had that privilege can find out the same thing.
